The Kaliningrad amber plant, a global amber monopoly, is exploring the possibility of supplying its products to Qatar, CEO Mikhail Zatsepin told a news conference at TASS on Thursday June 13.

According to him, the bulk of Russia’s amber exports go to China today, but the company wants to expand the geography of its international supplies.

“In the near future, we will visit Qatar; we want to explore that market,” Zatsepin said, adding that the plant is also planning to expand domestic sales.

The Russian market potential is only used 1-2%,” he said. “We need to encourage a love of amber in Russians.”

The Amber Cluster has recently opened in the Kaliningrad Region, Zatsepin noted.

It brings together businesses in the amber industry. A joint store has opened at the airport as part of the cluster,” he noted.
