Sweden’s AB SKF, a leading machine-building company, has launched a line of induction heat treatment of SKF CTBU (compact tapered roller bearing units) for railway transport.
This is the world’s first facility of its kind. The innovative line is environmentally friendly with reduced carbon dioxide emissions and employs an automated production management system. The features of each component are hundred percent accurate. The new line will allow for improving the durability and wear properties of bearing units.
The investment in the new production exceeded €4 mio (some RUR 300 mio). The total investment in the Tver enterprise was some €30 mio, that is, over RUR 2 bln. The Swedish company built the plant in 2010.
“Western companies are investing actively in production facilities in Central Russia and other Russian regions despite the mutual sanctions between Russia and Western Europe,” said economist Dmitry Afanasyev. “The reason is relatively cheap workforce and the availability of high-skilled experts.”
