Experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (United States) have published a list of cleansers and detergents that are efficient against COVID-19.
Ordinary (not antibacterial) soap is claimed to be most effective. Thorough hand washing with warm water and soap is said to destroy the protective shell of the coronavirus.
Bleach is said to be able to efficiently kill viruses settling on bed linen and clothing. Therefore, medical workers recommend using bleach (1 tea spoon of per glass of water). Bleach can also be used to wipe some surfaces but it should be remembered that it can corrode metal so it should not be used to clean stainless steel faucets.
A 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide will kill the coronavirus in just five minutes. Pour it undiluted in a spray can, spray it on a surface and leave it there for several minutes. Hydrogen peroxide does not corrode metal but experimenting with fabric is not recommended as it may decolor them.
A solution containing at least 70% alcohol is also great against COVID-19. The solution is usually safe for all types of surfaces. Healthcare experts recommend using it to wipe door knobs, desks and light switches.
However, vodka will not help to fight the infection although there is plenty of advice on vodka-based disinfection online. Some vodka producers have already released statements confirming that the drink does not contain enough ethanol (only 40%) to completely neutralize the insidious virus.
