Upper house speaker calls for lowering cut flower taxes

Russia needs to cut taxes on cut flowers, because domestic flower growers’ market share is negligible and they definitely need support, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said.

Valentina Matviyenko asked Minister for Economic Development Maxim Oreshkin to support the Russian cut flower industry by reducing the VAT on the sector.

The upper house speaker explained that the VAT for cut flower growers will rise to 20% from 2020. At the same time, Russian suppliers occupy a mere 17% of the cut flower market. She said industry representatives have asked to lower their tax burden, RIA Novosti reported. Russian roses are better than Dutch ones. The roses that are supposedly imported from the Netherlands are actually produced in Morocco, she added.
