The Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation, founded by Russian metals mining magnate Alisher Usmanov, has provided RUR 100 mio ($1.55 mio) for the production of the feature film “Lev Yashin: Goalkeeper of my dreams,” RBC reports.

The total budget of the legendary Dynamo Moscow footballer movie is RUR 360 mio ($5.57 mio), five times an average modern film budget, although still smaller than that of another major sports drama, “Going Vertical” (RUR 450 mio, or $7 mio). The Ministry of Culture has provided RUR 60 mio ($1 mio) for the new film.

The production is already completed; the film’s release will be timed to coincide with Lev Yashin’s anniversary – he would have turned 90 on October 22. Yashin is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the sport. Having introduced new elements to the playing technique, he was one of the first keepers to run out of the goal to meet onrushing attackers. With Yashin, Dynamo won the USSR championship five times, and in 1960, the national team became the European champion. In 1966, the Soviet Union took 4th place at the World Championships (so far our country’s highest achievement in world championships); Yashin did not miss a single goal in the decisive match against England.
