The VEB.RU (Vnesheconombank) state corporation will be involved in the development of the Zavidovo special economic zone in the Tver Region.
A respective initiative was discussed at a regional government meeting chaired by the region’s governor Igor Rudeni and state corporation head Igor Shuvalov. The required investment is estimated at over RUR 35 bio ($543 mio).
The Zavidovo special economic zone is the only special economic zone of tourist and recreational type in the Central Federal District. In May 2018, local officials approved a layout for an all-season recreational center. Zavidovo will be divided into seven sectors that will include hotels, apartments, camping sites, a water park, an amusement park, a conference hall, an air park, a small vessel maintenance center and an agricultural tourist center.
The zone will be in development until 2030 as the facilities will be put in operation step by step. The project’s total area is 380 ha.
“It is one of the largest tourist projects lately. In the long term the returns from such facilities will significantly exceed the investment, to say nothing about their social importance,” economist Dmitry Afanasyev believes.
