The decision to end self-isolation will be political and motivated by both the medical situation and the economic circumstances, according to doctor of medical sciences and virologist Anatoly Alshtein.
He commented that the tentative date when the self-isolation regime will be ended is April 30. Anatoly Alshtein explained why the government estimated the date for lifting the current restrictions based on 14-day cycles. According to the doctor, 14 days is an expanded incubation period for COVID-19. On average, symptoms develop within five to six days. After two such cycles it will become clear whether the restrictive measures are working.
Alshtein added that the duration of the ‘quarantine’ will depend on political reasons. Both medical factors, the state of the economy and political circumstances will influence the decision to end it. If the lockdown proves to be efficient, it may be cancelled on April 30. However, if the epidemic continues, the restrictions will be extended, National News Service reports citing the virologist.
Alshtein also noted that the epidemic may not stop abruptly and may continue longer in a weaker form. Therefore, the self-isolation regime will have to be extended for certain categories of people.
