Innovative technology in Moscow metro

A special LVT (Low Vibration Track) technology reducing vibration and noise from 80 to 72 dB has been employed for construction of new tracks of 11 Moscow metro lines and for upgrading the existing infrastructure since 2014.

The innovative tracks look different from the regular railway tracks. They have concrete blocks instead of cross ties laid on special rubber-covered elastic pads, and then integrated with a concrete base of the track.

After the metro infrastructure’s upgrade, trains move silently, with the vibration in tunnels reduced. The service life of the track laid with the use of vibration-absorbing technology is about 40 years before an overhaul. Besides, the cost of its maintenance is about 20% lower.

40 stations have already got vibration-absorbing tracks, seven more stations will have it by the end of 2020.
