Joint energy projects contribute to regional stability

Joint energy projects with Azerbaijani involvement are promoting stability in the region, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a news conference in Ankara yesterday, Trend news agency reports. He noted that such important projects as the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline are among most important energy projects in the region, as well as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway.

Erdogan added that Georgia is an important transit country. “Turkey will develop relations with Georgia in all areas,” the Turkish president said. “We are interested in further strengthening relations with Georgia.”

The initial capacity of TANAP, which is the main segment of the Southern Gas Corridor, is 16 bln cubic meters of gas. About 6 bln cubic meters of this gas will be supplied to Turkey while the rest to Europe. After completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), gas supplies to Europe will commence in early 2020.

The shareholders of TANAP are Southern Gas Corridor CJSC (51%), SOCAR Turkey Enerji (7%), Botas (30%), BP (12%).
