Russia’s Rosstat state statistics service has disclosed data on the condition of roads in different regions of the country. The worst roads were reported in the Republic of Mari El, the Saratov Region, Kalmykia, as well as the Arkhangelsk and Magadan regions.
Moscow predictably tops the best road ranking with 97% of local roads meeting regulatory requirements. There are good roads in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, Stavropol and Krasnoyarsk Territories, as well as in one of the poorest autonomous republics in Russia, Ingushetia.
Overall, less than half of Russian roads can be described as good, while more than 57% of them fail to meet the standards. True, there has been a positive trend in recent years, and the share of bad roads has shrunk 5%, Russia Today reports. The condition of the roads was evaluated by the quality of the surface, the presence of potholes, and the visibility that the road provides.
