Space food (including food in tubes) is produced by the Laboratory in collaboration with the Research Institute of Food-Concentrate Industry & Special Food Technology, and Biryuliovsky Experimental Plant. The Laboratory was founded in 2010 and at that moment it was the first commercial project for producing astrofood. The company plans to promote astrofood in countries which are going to develop piloted cosmonautics programs. As Director General of Glavkosmos Denis Lyskov notes, foreign partners of the corporation are interested in astrofood from Russia.

Space Food Laboratory seems to be willing to make astrofood available to everyone, not just astronauts. As the producer states, astrofood is made of fully natural ingredients without using any genetically modified organisms, colorants or stabilizers, it will therefore be good for everyone. It may be useful for hiking trips and as a substitute for sport nutrition. The food also has an original tube packaging, which can additionally attract consumers. Currently the company also produced canned food. Astrofood can now be bought at 26 vending machines in Moscow, Novosibirsk, Sochi, Kaluga, Yaroslavl and other cities. The food is also sold at company’s online shop where a portion of spicy lamb, or veal and vegetables, or chicken with prunes costs RUR 300 ($4.8).
