Head of the Russian Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) explained the phased lifting of lockdown restrictions in Russia: it will happen when there is no growth in new COVID-19 cases.

Rospotrebnadzor head Anna Popova said that when considering lifting the restrictions, three main criteria should be assessed: the growth rate of coronavirus cases, the number of free hospital beds for COVID-19 patients, and the test rate to see how far the infection has spread.

According to Popova, the service suggests lifting the restrictions in three stages. During the first stage, jogging and other outdoor sports will be allowed, as well as walks with children.

During the second stage, some retail outlets will open; schools and universities will resume their work.

The main restrictions will be lifted at the third stage with the opening of parks, hotels and cafés, RIA Novosti news agency reports. However, the lockdown could be imposed again if there is a second wave of the epidemic.
