Russian small businesses trust non-professionals with cybersecurity

Almost one-third (30%) of Russian small businesses rely on employees with no experience in cybersecurity when it comes to protecting information, according to the Business Information Security survey carried out by Kasperky Lab in the spring of 2018.

The survey analyzes responses from 6,614 IT professionals from 29 countries, including 772 Russian participants.

Extortion software remains one of the most critical problems for small organizations around the world. Kaspersky Lab global statistics shows that 37% small business representatives were affected by cyberextortion two or three times in the past 12 months and 27% lost access to their data for several weeks as a result of such incidents.

In 2017 and 2018, 2.7 million users fell victims to this potentially dangerous software as their computers, mobile devices and servers were used by cybercriminals to mine cryptocurrency.

Sham websites, viruses, unsecured networks, free and unprotected Wi-Fi, lost or stolen devices used for work – all these factors pose a risk for organizations, especially small ones that hold confidential information as their key asset. Focusing on growth in their everyday tasks, companies do not always pay enough attention to hacking prevention“, notes Head of B2B Product Marketing at Kaspersky Lab Sergey Martsynkyan.
