Far Eastern scientists create decision-making robots

Researchers from Vladivostok-based Far Eastern Federal University have developed autonomous robotic devices capable to make decisions in a changing environment. The robots are equipped with an artificial vision system and special software that allows the devices to perform efficient actions.

The robotic device will adjust a motion path online and promptly change its direction during obstacle avoidance, RIA Novosti news agency reported. According to researchers, such robots can be used for plant production process but its software does not yet provide for human-level accuracy. The robot can control instruments with a precision of up to 0.5 mm. However, high-accuracy operations require a greater precision of 0.2-0.1 mm. So far this task remains unresolved globally; yet, researchers in the Russian Far East ensure they can solve this issue.

Autonomous decision-making robots are already in use at Vladivostok’s instrument-making plant Dalpribor. The work is now underway to adjust the robotic device for performing new tasks, which scientists have yet to specify.
