First catalyst plant opens in Russia

A facility in the Omsk Region will begin to produce catalysts for oil cracking.

A cutting-edge plant launched in West Siberia’s Omsk Region will roll out up to 21K tons of catalysts per year – the first production facility on its scale in Russia. The plant’s products will be used in the Euro-5 fuel production and deep oil refining.

It is also important that, along with the unprecedented production capacity, the plant will use Russian production technology developed by Gazprom Neft in collaboration with leading specialized research institutes. The raw materials will also be provided by Russian suppliers, and the technology is protected by international patents; as a result, the Omsk Region’s project has been awarded a national project status, as confirmed by the Energy Ministry.

According to expert estimates, with this high catalyst production capacity, Russia will be able to boost production of the top international standard fuel as well as generally reduce its dependence on foreign supplies in this market segment.
