Education moves to virtual reality

On November 20, the CyberLIT project was presented at the Go tech forum. The founders of the project to develop educational courses in the virtual reality format have set an ambitious goal – to turn the education market upside down, making the teaching and learning process much more exciting for students.

Alexei Dovzhikov, a co-founder of CyberLIT, said a person best absorbs new information when they do something.

“While learning by doing, a person remembers 90% of information, while audio and visual data is absorbed far worse. Try to recall any university lecture from a decade ago – you are unlikely to succeed. But if you think of how you repaired your bike once, you will most likely know what to do,” the expert noted.

Therefore, the project team concluded that VR technology can make the learning process far more effective.

“Virtual reality provides people with experience through coming into contact with certain phenomena in an artificial environment. For example, instead of telling children about gravity, you can transfer them to another planet in the virtual world and let them play with a ball in different gravity conditions. This way they will better understand what it means,” Dovzhikov said.

However, he found it difficult to estimate the potential market for VR products.

“The Gartner Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies shows that virtual reality is emerging from the Trough of Disillusionment, meaning this market is growing. Previously, it measured hundreds of billions of dollars; then fell by 90%; now it is starting to recover. We need to wait another five years to be able to talk about any real figures,” he said.

In conclusion, he expressed confidence that VR technology will change the education market. Today, only programmers can do VR training courses. In the future, any teacher should be able to develop such lessons.
